Is there any performance gain if I remove the airbox from my 80 Liq 440 and follow with proper re jetting? Any suggested guidelines would be appreciated. The engine is stock.

I knew this about the Liquifires but does it work the same on the Sportfire? Also does the rubber hose on the LF airbox need to be there to create the back pressure in the airbox?

I think the question is " if it was jetted right" . Air boxes calm down the incoming air and provide much more stable flow into the carbs. I doubt you would see any increase in power, maybe a slight decrease. Lets see how many people tell me I am wrong. Peter

re: the 1980 Liq., is there better driveability & perf. to be had on this machine if I install a different model of mikuni. I find the power jet carbs to be so touchy.
Thank you

Most people opt. for the 38mm non-PJs instead. You can then run K&N airfilters instead of the airbox. You'll have to hog some material out of the airbox "boots" if you choose to run the airbox. There are jetting guidelines in FAQs.
