ski skins
I put aftermarket skins made for Arctic Cat on one of the machines. I bought them a few years back and didn't write down the model number. I took the ski into the shop and compared the sizing. They fit really well for length and width, although I had to grind the ski corners down to make them fit. My machines are drivers not collectors so I was okay with that.
I slid the wear bars on in the front as is stock, and for the back I chopped off the step extension on the wear bar and welded an extra bolt at the very end so I could attach it to the ski. With the added thickness of the skin I wouldn't have been able to get the bar back through the ski.
All of my riding is off-trail in the bush, so for the second machine I bought extra wide 8" skins. Again they needed some trimming on the front. They are a bit ridiculous, and I haven't run them very far yet so I'm not sure how well they'll last. They're wider by at at least an inch on both sides, and longer by something like 4" in the back. They get real close to the track now, and are under the exhaust. I didn't add any support to the back of the skis for the extra length, which I may yet have to do.
The flotation, in my opinion and for my riding, is worth it.
You can see them in this photo, and te Cat ones very clearly in my profile photo.
