76 LF motor swap

What would I need to do to swap a 440 into my 76LF to replace the tired 340? I was also wondering where I could get a remanufactured decal Set for any of the 76-78 LF's?

The 440/23LC series engine is a direct drop in. The crankcase is the same so technically you could remove the 340 cylinder jug and install 440 cylinders/pistons, but with a high mileage engine, you should inspect the crankshaft.
Other differences between the 340/440 sled:
Carb specs(see FAQ section)
Chaincase gear ratio( the 440 uses a slightly higher gear ratio)
The decal sets are available from Chris(decalguy)

I have a 440/23lc was a running motor until I sold all the electical,clutch and intake. It is basically a longblock motor this would give you all the 440 top end parts needed and a spare crank. It did start and run but would be worth replacing rings while apart Id like $50+ shipping pics available.

Well, I'll tell you what, I have some parts to sell still. I should make an extra $100 pretty quick here. I'm selling a Chev 350 block that I just bored, and relieved for a stroker kit, so once the guy pays me the $750 for the job, I'll Send you $100 even. I'll let you know pretty quick. He's hopefully going to get it on Tuesday. Sadly enough, I owe $265 for my federal taxes, otherwise I'd be buying JD stuff like crazy because DK Trader has a bunch of stuff I need (want). Besides that, the motor looks really clean, and it looks like you're including pretty much everything. In 3 months I'll no longer be a poor college kid....thank god.

Hey Jack,

One other small detail to note, I think you said your 340 was a 76 right? The 76 340 and 440 had the same driven helix, but if your sled was a 77-78, the 340 had a different helix angle than the 440.

I forget the exact number, but the 440's used the same helix angle from 76 to 81, and "I think" it was 38 deg before going to the 44 deg for 82-84. I think the 77-78 340's used a 34 deg. I might be full of it, but I will check.

Good luck with your sled, and getting out of school. Many of us have been there, being a poor collage kid. Althogh it doesn't seem like it, collage is way more fun than being a real adult, LOL!

I have an NOS 44 deg. cam for an 80-82 LF, and I'm guessing Sport and Trail too. Will this work on the 76?
