Ok i'm back again with my 72 Jac Trac. she's running great and i got a working headlight, but i can't keep the side lights and tail lights from burning out.
its a ccw engine. out of the engine i got:
red wire - spark plug
white wire - spark plug
two blue wires - both go to head light
yellow wire- this wire has power to it. so i hooked this wire to the side lights and tail light. the frame completes the circuit. the lights work for awhile then burn out. i was using a 12volt bulb, burnt out. then i put in a sodium bulb 120volt (this bulb should keep getting brighter with the more power you put into it, but that bulb also burnt out).
why do these bulbs keep burning out?
please help.
thanks in advance.

Yep just a littel thing called a "voltage regulator" it's a must have. The motor puts way more out then 12v and with out the regulator in the circuit god knows what you putting to your lights could be as much as 20 to 25 v i'am just guessing so get the V R in there and this my fix your light trouble--------Dan

72 model deeres didn't have voltage regulators, did they? maybe someone can provide some insight on why and how it still worked. thanks

i was thinking of regulator, but i was wondering why the headlight has no problems. if i hook up a regulator. do i hook it up to the headlight as well?
the headlight uses the two blue wires. both blue wires looked like they came out of either side of the lighting coil.
the yellow wire came off the lighting coil, but it looked like it was a ground. Side lights; one yellow wire from coil and ground to the chasis.
will any regulator off any snowmobile work?
thanks again,
kuby
