Re: '80 Sportfire for Charity - New topic
Update: Today the suspension was shipped off to Joe Rainville. My friend that does all of my shipping understood the nature of this job and donated all boxing and shipping materials. I paid only for shipping. It's guys like this that we somehow need to have a way of thanking. I'm open to any ideas. Also today I took the engine, clutches, and drive shaft to PJ's. Didn't get to see PJ but saw his wife Jenny and daughter Hanna who was 1 year old today!! As always, several very cool Vettes in the shop. One in particular he had just returned to the shop with from dynoing it. Got 475hp at the wheels. Super cool Vette!
KWC Kevin is going to handle the skis/shocks. Do we have any one interested in stripping the tunnel and polishing it? Marshall, if you're reading this, we really need the TPR panels. How about making this your "Prototype"? Is anyone interested taking the hood and trying to make it look like new? Someone volunteered the decals awhile back. Anyone remember who? Joe W, are you still game for a set of insulators and a flap?
I think the track is in good condition. Blasting the grousers and repainting would be in order though....anyone?
Finally, bills (shipping, supplies, etc.) are starting to mount so if you can't help directly, money would be good. Remember to direct that to Matt.........NOT ME.

Here is where you can make a donation: http://www.jdsleds.com/donate.html
The money goes to a dedicated account, and will be used to purchase parts/supplies for the sled.

Matt, Jan and Jordan Carlson are going to check with the Komen folks to see about getting them onboard. At some point we hopefully can show this money coming in as "tax deductible". Should we check with Loren about the same thing?

Theres a brake block with dimmer switch on Ebay, auction 290324374512. It ends in about on hour. We need this piece badly for the charity sled. I currently have the high bid so if one of you are bidding just to have a spare, could you sacrifice this one to the charity sled? Or, better yet outbid me and donate it!! FYI, we need even worse the the throttle block and kill switch assembly if anyone has one to donate or sell. Let Matt or I know. DA

Hi Guys~
Just chiming in, as I've reluctantly been away from the board for awhile working on the new shop, preparing for Hanna's 1st B-Day, keeping the wifey happy, etc....
DA did drop the engine, clutches and some other drivetrain stuff off the other day for me to get started on. I've got to run back to the shop in a little bit and I'll take some photos, so I'll post 'em up when I get back. I will say though that most of the stuff looks to be in great condition overall and I think the engine will be a good one once it's freshened up a bit.
Also, just in case some of you may not know~ We are restoring the nicer sled DA that bought from Ebay, instead of the donor sled I currently have at the shop. We figured that his sled would make a much better platform to start with and would take a lot less work to bring up to speed, than would mine; hence the decision to use his.
As you've seen, the sled is being worked on at DA's house and most of the mechanical/electrical/carburation/engine/driveline stuff will be restored at my shop, since I have the equipment to do everything here. If DA or others need to use our equipment here for whatever reason, they are more than welcome to. As I understand it, once the sled (rolling chassis) is completed, DA will bring the sled over to the shop to install the engine, test-fire it, tune it in, etc.
I'm anxious to get going on everything and I'll bet she'll look like new once the board community is done with it!
Regards,
PJ

Re: '80 Sportfire for Charity - New topic
I was able to get the NOS brake block/dimmer switch on Ebay last night (not cheap) and today I'm trying to get ahold of the fellow on VSCA that has a throttle block/kill switch. I've tried to email him a couple of times. The first time I suggested that it would be nice if he'd donate it.....he never responded. Today I broke down and sent him an email telling him I'd buy it...........no response. Tonight I called him and left a message.............geez it seems like it's hard to buy things these days. If everyone would keep your eyes open for Sportfire NOS parts, more than likely we'll need it/them. Oh, by the way I happened to drop the engine etc, at PJ's on Hanna's first birthday so I was able to tell her happy birthday. DA

Hey Don.
Just left you a message. I should be able to help you out with a throttle block. I also have new jack shaft bearings if they are needed!
I was thinking...
Do you think it would be better if you did the rubber track conversion on the sled? I suppose if you were going for originality that wouldn't be an option...

Re: '80 Sportfire for Charity - New topic
Thanks for the pictures PJ. Here's the latest update. Kevin (kwc) is coming today to pickup the tunnel and hood. He has graciously accepted the challenge of working with those two items. He was going to handle the skis but the tunnel and hood will be quite enough for one person. Anyone interested in the skis? One big challenge will be finding chrome shocks as I don't think my chromer will do them but I'll check.
Finally, I'm in a terrible time crunch right now and unfortunately the sled will have to slide to about third on my to do list. Items 1 and 2 will likely take me thru July. Please keep your eyes open for NOS parts for this sled.
Marshall if you're reading this please call me at 260-609-2833 so we can discuss some things.
