would 440 gears work on my 340 LF an if so will it make it that much faster?

storm_00,
The 440 gears would bolt right up but the ratio is higher and the sled would be sluggish off the line. technically the mph would increase once you got it rolling, only if the clutches made a full upshift and the engine rpm increased to the governed speed. Just quessing, the difference is about 5 mph. I'll look for the formula I had to figure it out.

Storm,
I like your spirit but not sure if practical.
The 340 gear combination=21 tooth/39 tooth: 1.86- 66 pitch chain
The 440 gear combination=24 tooth/40 tooth: 1.67- 68 pitch chain
The chain is sized for the gear combination.
One other thing to mention is the governed speed of the engine.
The 340 LF is 7000-7500 rpm
The 440 LF is 7275-7750 rpm.
You should not exceed the governed speed trying to get a higher mph.
There are differences in the primary clutch weights also which are matched for the hp output of the engine.
If you are trying to get the max out of the sled safely, install 440 jugs, pistons, rejet carbs,24/40 gears and use the correct primary clutch.
