Doug Hough question

Post by VintageCatMan »

Not really pertaining to deeres directly, but there is alot of I500 racers on the board that may know the answer. I picked up a 76 Cross Country Cat at Hay Days 2 years ago. I started disassembling the clutching and written inside the secondary was the name Hough. This sled does havve the twin pipes, so it could have been raced. I know Doug Hough was a mechanic fro Deere in 77, but what did he do in 76? Any other Houghs out there? Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

Nick: You are probably correct in assuming that one of the Houghs raced that sled. Kurt (the dad), and sons Doug or Dave ran Cats from the early 70's on. In the 75-76 season I was busy on the oval circuit with my 340 and 440 SRX's and am not sure which Hough ran what. Doug and I became teamates on ETD in 76-77 and I built liquifires for both boys in 77-78 went to Arctic Cat with my best buddy Doug Oster for 78-79 and then went back to Dave Hough after that and built Yamahas for him and Steve Houle. Wow, no wonder I'm worn out. If you really need to find out about that sled I can find out more for you. On another note, Kenny were you in Minnesota lately and forgot to close the gate when you left the state. I wish you'd be more careful, I have it on good authority that Rainville slithered in and back out again like a thief in the night. If we're not careful we'll just be another New York.

Thanks Steve, that clears some of it up. I would like to find out if it was their sled, and if it was I would like to restore it to the shape they had it in. THanks.

Steve,

Thanks for helping out "Sidekick Nick" with this Cat. I was with him when he spotted it walking into Hay Days. It was complete, ran, an had dual pipes too, so I figured it really needed to come back to NY with us. Didn't take Nick long to come to that conclusion too.

Also, not my fault you don't secure your boarders better. This time I even snuck in during broad day-lite. Jesse even let me sneek out with a Dator tunnel this time...

Hi Guys,

I have a few pic's of the sled when Nick drove it back to the trailer. Funny, but I lightly had to twist his arm to go look at as he spotted it on our way into Hay Days. Nick said: "Hey, look a Cross Country Cat" I said "come on Nick, we better go look" He wanted to get into the grounds but I was bent on checking it out.

It had dual pipes, was complete, and it ran. The price was very reasonable, around $500.00, so I said "One of us is taking this home" to prod him. Glad we had room in the trailer!
