PJ,
Since I am donating an NOS suspension, and tons of other parts to this project and the 340/s, I guess I can look for gaskets too. I should have an OEM set up the barn. I can't be of any help with pistons, but I think WISCO still makes them for the Kawi's.

I think DA took care of everything Joe, so no worries there. As far as parts- I'm donating the carb rebuild kit, the engine fan belt, the sparkplugs, recoil rope and any other misc. small items/hardware I'll need. The rest will be our time, the shop, equipment, machinery or anything else DA needs me to do to get the project done on time. He's a slave-driver that guy and he lives close enough to me to keep coming around all the time to bug us to "Get 'er Done"! Geez!
Jekyll- The parts look GOOD!

Hey PJ,
I forgot to mention "nice job" by taking on the motor. I do have NOS external motor parts, like the fan housing and I might have the tin too if needed. Holler if you need anything else, I will see what else I have in the barn.
Roger,
Nice job on those parts! Thanks for helping us out.

Jekyll has a delima...............
I got the replacement drag-link in the mail from Don A. My plan was to polish it to a near mirror finish like I did on the other aluminum shaft.
Here is my issue, the shaft Don sent is NOS complete with the Deere part number sticker. There is no way to polish it and still retain the sticker (which is just so cool to have on there).
What do you guys think?
Polish and loose the sticker (going to looks) or leave as is and go for the neat factor of NOS parts?
I realize this is a small problem in terms of the world (and I am WAY overthinking this) but want to do the right thing for the cause.
Later,
Roger

Roger,
Trash the sticker, it's really no big deal. The other parts you worked on look great, and this one should match.
Thanks again for helping us out with this project!

I spoke with Diane Miller today and the pressure is on. She will have a place reserved at A1 for the "Charity Sled" to make its debut!!! Let's "Git-R-Done" as Larry would say. DA

Re: '80 Sportfire for Charity - New topic
Well, since DA stopped over the other day and cracked the whip around here to get going on this thing, (he's a tough guy to work for... LOL) I'd thought I'd post up more progress on the stuff that was bestowed on me so he would leave me alone for awhile..
The carb was fully diassembled, cleaned, refurbished and re-assembled where she's ready to dribble pre-mix once again very soon for the new heart of this machine. The jetting is stock for 0*F and above, 4000 ft. and below with a slightly richer 210 main jet to cover the wide open throttle fueling safely for very cold weather, since we won't know where this sled will end up geographically-wise. She should run like a top!
I should be done with the engine sometime next week too, for which I'll post up pics as I move along with that also.
Enjoy!!

I finally got back on the engine today cleaning some parts, glass bead blasting the engine tins/sheet metal and getting everything around for engine re-assembly next week. Everything has cleaned up to like-new finish and this stuff should really look good shot with John Deere engine enamel in factory colors. More to come soon and enjoy!

Primary Clutch Work...
I've completed the primary clutch work refurbishing for the JD Charity Sled and she's all dressed up for the party, ready to go!
The unit was completely dis-assembled, axis & spider slide bushings, rollers and centrifugal weights inspected. All of the bushings were in excellent condition for re-use, so they were cleaned and re-lubricated with dry graphite for re-assembly. The rollers were also in great shape, so they too were cleaned and lubed w/ dry graphite as well for re-assembly. The centrifugal weights and pins were a bit rusty and worn however, so they were replaced with a new NOS kit that Mr. Rainville donated. (Thank you!)
The entire unit was washed, glass bead blasted, graphite lubed and was re-assembled with the new parts described. The factory "silver" spring was also re-coated to factory "silver" colors as well.
She's ready go and the only thing I have left is the secondary drive and the engine, which should be completed by the end of next week- my schedule permitting.
Enjoy!
