More Liquifire problems
Hey Guys
I have another head scratcher for ya. I can't get my 76' liquifire to fire. I have spark at both cylinders. Just changed the cdi box, coils and plugs. the machine ran about a week ago. it sat and idled then just stalled. I thought the tank may be plugged so I cleaned that up. It does get fuel to the cylinders because the plugs are wet with fuel so I don't think it is the fuel pump. It will not try and fire or sputter. I spoke to a mechanic and he said it may be the crank seals? I do have good compression (145 at both) and it holds at that. Also can a machine go out of time when just sitting and idleing?? I don't have a presure tester for the crank case and don't want to pay a mechanic to try and figure it out. I have seen that the best resource for problems is this site and many of the regulars on it. I thought I would ask you first since alot of you guys have owned these machines for years and may have run across this. I would like to get this machine running (running out of winter) any suggestions?? Thanks

Generally if the timing ring is mounted in the center position, it should at least fire.
I had this same exact problem with my 76 liquifire. The engine seemed to spark with the plugs laying on top of the head, but never fired when installed. I checked the ohm readings of the stator and found the low speed windings were way off, to low. After replacing the stator, it started right up. Check out the CDI diagnostics in the FAQ section for the procedure to check the stator.

hi, this may help i just had similar problems with my 1973JDX8, first check your gasoline make sure there is no water in your system,if the engine dies out while idling check to see if the carbuerator is set too rich, mine has a MIKUNI,and someone overjetted the carb, took it to a guy and he down sized the jet and she will sit there and idle, starts right up and runs fine. IF you think it may be a seal problem start the machine and spray some either around the pto shaft while she's running to see if the engine speeds up,if it does then it sounds like a bad seal, also make sur your spark plugs are correct for the machine and gapped correctly, I never reuse plugs, the're not that expensive, plugs should never be wet while running, also make sure the choke is not sticking

HEY GUYS
Thanks for the info.. I can't get this machine running period. It will not start/fire/spit or sputter. I have checked the stator and it seems to be in range. as for the seals should it not try to start on one cylinder??. If it did it would narrow down which side is bad. So lets recap. Spark good...fuel to cylinders...good compression...stator checked seems in range...new coils...new plugs...Any suggestions????

Try a different CDI, I know you said it has spark I had a dater that was doing this samething good spark, fuel.,compression just that the cdi was throwing everything off put a different cdi on took off on first pull

One more thing!!the red and white wire's comming out of the cdi that go to the coils??????try turning them around

You say the stator/timing ring ohmed out good. What are the ohm readings. White wire to coil is for the mag side.

hARLEY
I only have a analog ohm meter but it read just over 6 (60-65) on the blue wire. and just over 2k on the white. I will try again after I get a digital. What do you think??
Thanks
Sheldon

Using the anolog meter is fine. I don't think you are measuring the correct wires. Look at the chart again and use the pictures for the location.

Hey Harley
Here is the deal. I think the wiring is different on my machine maybe older?? On my "D" connector to engine case there is only three connector spades So I unplugged the CDI from the stator (the little connetor one male white wire off stator, one female blue wire off stator) so I am checking ohms before the CDI box. I noticed your "D" connector has six spades. Is this on a newer than 76' Machine?? I don't think the wiring has been altered other than the CDI Box wires. (when I bought a new CDI it had a "D" connector which I had to modify for the older connectors two off stator, other wires to the other connector to harness.) I know this sounds confusing. I appreciate your help as well as the from the other guys

Compare the 2 diagrams and you should be able to figure it out.
