Cyclone with bogies
Cyclone with bogies
I got this sled last week. It's kind of an oddity. Looks like someone converted it to 100 series bogies and track. I think they did a decent job, so I'm in the process of resurrecting it.
Nice beer can! Never =know what you'll find stuck in a sled that you pulled out of the bushes. The used some really heavy angle iron to mount the back axle assembly.
Trailing like bogies.
Track looks OK
I've got a pile of pictures of the tearing down the motor and cleaning it out and re-assembling. I could post them if anyone wants to see them, but I don't want to inundate the board if it's not welcome.

Re: Cyclone with bogies
Now that is interesting! Someone really wanted that bogie track under there, because that was a fair amount of work.
Maybe even one of a kind.
Go ahead and post your photos.

Re: Cyclone with bogies
I was a little amazed at the work they did. Can't scrap something that someone else worked so hard on - aside from the fact that I can hardly ever bring myself to scrap a sled anyways.
Compression checked out OK. The other cylinder was maybe 5 PSI lower.
The sled didn't have too many miles on it - or maybe the speedo broke a long time ago. We'll find out when it runs.
Nice mouse nest in the air box.
Carb corrosion. Gotta get a carb. Shouldn't be hard to find one.
I should probably replace the carb boot too. it isn't cracked, but it is kinda nasty.
The CDI box is probably the worst off of any part of the sled.

Re: Cyclone with bogies
I'm breaking this up so I don't get too many pictures in one post.
The mess was everywhere.
Pressure washing
Getting into the motor
it wasn't a surprise any more
Got it as clean as i could before going any further

Cylinders looks good
My piston pin puller
Working on the reed cages
A friend gave me a spare motor. It turned out to be a good thing. There was one reed cage on each that was too corroded to use. When you get corrosion under the rubber coating it creates bumps that will keep the reeds from sealing. Even the better cages had minor (maybe 0.003") bumps of corrosion. I was able to use a razor blade and flatten them without cutting through the rubber, so I decided they are good enough.
Going back together.
More pictures later.

Check out the double-thick seat, to account for the lack of suspension travel? Wow.

Re: Cyclone with bogies
Hate to burst your bubble but according to one of the first pictures, that is NOT a Cyclone.....it's a 340cc "Can Crusher".. Seriously it looks like a huge project but those always make you feel the best when they're done. Best of luck. DA
Feel free to check out our website www.buscobullet.com for restorations or parts.
Re: Cyclone with bogies
The seat is actually a Trailfire seat. I think you are on the right track with the extra padding idea. I think it's going to get a customized Sportfire/Liquifire seat before I'm done. Wonder if my Wife will show me how to run the sewing machine when I try to make a seat cover?
The thing that always gets me on a project like this isn't the extra work. I enjoy that. It's the extra money and extra time spent chasing down used parts in an effort to save money. I think I'm going to go for a Hewtech CDI box though. The CDI box will be worth more than the sled when I am done with it, but you can't put a price on not breaking down.
Did some chassis work today. Fixed the stuck brakes.
Replaced a missing tie rod end, cleaned and lubed spindles and replaced a ski that had worn through.
Also put a better secondary on it. The original was all scabby with rust. I swapped the helix and spring over and lubed up the new one before installing it.
Now I'm waiting until the holiday is over so I can order some parts. With a little luck, I'll have it running in a couple weeks.

Re: Cyclone with bogies
The original full cleated tracks were notorious for throwing cleats. Perhaps the owner REALLY got tire of messing with them!
Hey, looks like you're making good progress.

Re: Cyclone with bogies
Time for an update. Got some parts tonight. The correct 34-83 carb and a Fire Plug CDI box.
I have been anxious to hear it run, so I started putting stuff together.
And dropped it in the sled, put a nurse tank on and took it for a spin around the yard.
I'm really impressed with the Fire Plug CDI box. It sparked hot when I was barley turning the motor over. It fits nice and install was plug and play.
I've still got a lot of stuff to do on it. The jet I put in the carb is way to fat, so I need to work on that. I need to get a kill switch or buy a tether or something to stop it other than the key. The lights didn't work, probably wiring. Air box still has mouse poop in it. No usable seat. The list goes on. But it runs and that motivates me to keep at it.
I want to thank everyone who contributes to the Kiortz section of the FAQ. It answered many questions.
