carb flanges

Post by 427cobra »

Hey Guys,

I need to buy some carb flanges for my 80 LF Project. I am going with the Invader flanges.

However I do not want Parts Unlimited ones. Which is what DK sells (I believe)

What other place would be a good option to place an order with that carries a better brand? Has anyone had experience with MFG supply or Pats Small Engines?

Thanks!

You can order genuine Mikuni parts through CPC, just tell them you want genuine Mikuni as they can order direct from Mikuni USA.
Although the only thing Mikuni makes now is the short ones

I would go with Kenny's suggestion first and if that doesn't pan out I'd go with Pat's Small Engine (www.psep.biz)

the shorter ones work great and make the air box removal much easier. the cheapies usually do bad on the engine pressure test; they leak at the center. I use fel-pro thermostat gaskets available at any auto parts store and put seal -all on both sides. this works great. all the other good sealers like permatex and unibond fail under the stresses of the carb weight. they are intended for bolt up fixtures. jim

Hi Eric,

I tried to use some aftermarket flanges from Pat's. What I ran into was that when you went to snug the flange against the intake the flange wanted to bow. The original MIC flanges have a thicker piece of metal encapsulated in the intake side of the rubber flange to prevent this. Also the spigot end of the carb just fell into the flange. With the original flange you had to work the spigot end into the flange and you could hear it almost pop into place for a nice tight fit. I was scared the aftermarket flanges would leak air so I took one of the old original MIC flange to a local ATV dealer and they measured the bolt pattern and the spigot end I.D. They were able to cross reference my old flange to a newer MIC part number. I paid around $14 a piece for original MIC flanges but they fit perefect! No bowing of the flange, the spigot end snapped in tight, and they were the same height as my old ones so my airbox fit correctly. To me it was worth the peace of mind for the extra money spent.

DA, Yes I've been hit and miss on the list here for awhile, been pretty busy. Hope things are well in Churubusco.

Brian, Here is the info on the 340/S carb flanges. The original carb flanges were a Mikuni VM32/206. The original flange fits Mikuni VM30-VM34 spigot carbs. It has a flange bolt pattern width of 75mm. They cross referenced using those demensions to a VM32/454 Mikuni flange. The price was $14.99 each through Yamaha.
