Gas Problems

Hi Guys...I have been monitoring this site for quite awhile but really didn't have much to add until now.

I have owned a JDX6 400 since it was new in 74.

It hasn't run for about 12 years until I decied to get it going this year.

I have had the caburetor rebuilt, replaced all of the gas lines and filters, and cleaned out the gas tank.

It started on the first pull!!

The machine starts great. It runs great for about 10 to 15 minutes and then it starts to starve for gas. I can see air bubbles in the intake line from the tank. The longer I run the machine the worse the starving problem gets until it stops all together and won't restart. At this point there is no gas in the line from the gas tank for about 4 inches up the line. If I let it sit for a few hours, it starts, runs great for 10 - 15 minutes and then the same problem occurs.

I have replaced all of the gas lines, filters and the line intake in the tank again and the problem still happens.

Any suggestions on what the problem could be??

did you replace the impusle line, maybe when it gets warm, it is failing.

do u hav a full tank of gas u might not be gettin any gas just air

I will check the impulse line tonight

I have actually cut the bottom off the intake for the fuel line and "knocked" the check ball out to ensure the free flow of gas. I will order a new one from my local dealer...thanks for the part number.

Rich...The issue with vaccum at the the tank...what am I looking for? The gasket around the fuel pick up is fine and the screw in line attachment is tight, I have installed a new cap for the fuel gauge and the fuller cap is ftting properly.

I think If I'm reading this right is that You have put a new fuel guage/cap In the tank right? If you have a new one like I got then the nub in the center of the new fuel guage is not drilled for proper venting. But Unlike my '72's (Walbro carb w/return line) the gas filler cap has the vent hole. I just looked at my jdx4 special(Bendix carb no return line) and the gas filler cap is not drilled but the gas guage is.

If your running the Walbro Carb and u have no hole in eather, My suggestion is to drill a small 3/16 hole in the top of the gas filler cap and not the guage.

Same thing happened with my John Deere 300. Brother Dave suggested new seals on the engine as the crank (I believe) drives the impulse pump. Things start out fine with a cold engine but as the seals warm up the impulse pump quits. He used to race the JDX8 and 295s
