Prestolite stators

Post by 400brian »

Hewlett Electronics may still be working on re-wound Prestolite stators. Sounds like product testing is under way.
Info at their website.

Hope this turns out to be a success. Here are the posts from Hewtec's web site.

10/3/2009: After years of searching & contacting different vendors, we finally have located a source to provide re-wound stators for the Prestolite systems. The goal is to provide something that has better reliability than the original & existing re-winds available. After evaluation of one of my rare NOS stators, we have identified an alternative wire that should provide better results. Ideally, we want to improve the tolerance to excessive heating that causes failure. It's difficult to guard against severe rust, but failure due to regular use has also been a problem with the Prestolite Stator. We should have 1st prototypes this month & plan to evaluate them. We may have them available yet this season, if all goes well. Our hope is to have the Improved version priced similar to standard re-winds currently available. Watch for details.

10/8/2009: We received the prototype Prestolite FAN / F/A rewound Stator today (see details below 10/3). The workmanship looks better than any NOS / OEM Prestolite Stator I've seen, as well as the re-wounds. It has passed the initial electrical tests, and is now scheduled for installation into our engine for more testing. We will do some initial testing, then it will be sent out for installation in a Race-sled. We won't say what part of the country it's going too, but we're sure it will get a thorough work out. We're in the process of obtaining re-wound stators for some other models as well. More to come.
