Brian,
Technically, we aren't even allowed to use jdsleds.com. They just havent called me on it yet. A few years ago, all web sites of JD dealers and JD hobby sites were asked to change their URL, as the letters "JD" as it applies to John Deere, are trademarked. Thats why I don't want it on clothing and all over the place.

Yes and I was on the phone to the reps at JD trying to plead our case, and wow were they firm.jdmatt wrote: Brian,

I agree with Matt & Joe, best not to poke the big green & yellow giant with a stick. tee shirt or anything else. All major companies go to great lengths to protect their trade marks. The only viable option would be under a license from JD ala Ertl farm toys, but I bet that would cost us a bunch, and from what I understand, Ertl has to get/buy a separate license for each model they market, no blanket deals. All the Ag companies that Ertl models for also have to approve the model quality/accuracy as they do not want their logo on 2nd rate product. Above info via "Toy Farmer" magazine.
On the flip side, it would seem that they should be happy we are here, especially when they charge some $100 for a parts + tech manual. They are making some pretty good money on an inch or so of paper.
Best to lay low and enjoy life as it is!!! That's my 2 cents worth.

JDGUY, I'm with you. Let's don't ruin what we've got. I'll guarantee you if there's a battle with John Deere that they'd win. This is a great website and I don't want to see it shut down because we want a t-shirt or hat. Also I'm on the side of anyone that registers a trademark or name as that's a protection device for the money they have invested. OK, I'm done....Don
Feel free to check out our website www.buscobullet.com for restorations or parts.

wow hadnt realised using JD was an issue but now I understand fully and it wouldnt be worth loosing the site over a shirt just wondering from a legal standpoint if JsledsD.com could fly. Has anyone ever looked up john deere under clothing on ebay theres alot of genuine stuff but alot of conterfits aswell.

So what's the problem?. We don't have to lose the site, rather than live in fear that the green monster is lurking to get us, change the name!
GreenMachines.com
HoriconSleds.com
Deerdroppings.com
Matt&JoesVintageSleds.com
We should be able to come up with something catchy.
I seems to me that this is not the worst problem to have, most of the other makes of sleds can use their name without problems because the companys are loooooong gone.
Matt....Am I your favorite pain in the ass yet?

So Rich,
Do you have enough juice with Deere to get us permission to use JDSLEDS.com ?
Obviously, the dealers don't need the "sled" part.

That site pretty much breaks every rule that JD was enforcing a few years ago.TakeItToTheLimit wrote: I think you might find this site interesting, speaking of using JD in a site name: http://www.jdimplement.com/
I am not suggesting anything...just wanted you to be aware.

I do like greenmachines, but I just did a check on all extentions (.com, .net, .org) and they've all been reserved by stupid domain re-sellers.

Just did a quick check, and www.greenmachines.ca is not being used. Can you try that?

I don't know anything about making websites, but does it matter what goes on the end? If it is .ca, does it have to abide by different rules or what?
