The book I have states your 300 should have a WDA-31. I don't know the difference. Look at the underside of the plastic engine cover, the tune-up specs could still be there. The chaincase should have 30w oil 1/4in. below the large bottom rubber plug.
I found this. http://www.angelfire.com/pa2/snowbolens/tuning.html
Carb Service manual, http://www.vintagesnow.com/Mercury_file ... %204-a.pdf
See page 25
Hope this helps,

thank you very much I have decided to go ahead and rebuild the carb. Also I have read about the seals going bad but my sled runs ok and seems to have good compression how would I check to see if the seals are bad.

If there is any doubt as to the condition or age of the seals, change them.

They will cost you less than $10 and the 300 Kohler is the easiest engine to change seals on.

You need a clutch puller and a flywheel puller.

It sounds like you need to reference a service manual also.

The seals can be changed without removing the engine as the kohler design is differnt than most engines.

Also pay close attention to the o-ring behind the fan housing.

I am not sure if you need to split the crankcase, others will problably chime in but before attempting to change them, buy a service manual for your model sled. See the link below. You may also find one on Ebay. You will need a clutch puller and a hub puller to remove the flywheel.
