One or 2 peice clutch puller???
One or 2 peice clutch puller???
Whats the difference here guys in the 1 and 2 peice clutch puller??? i bought the 2 peice and im not able to get the primary clutch off any secret way ? lol
Re: One or 2 peice clutch puller???
One or two piece probably doesn’t make a lot of difference, in a normal situation. I prefer the one piece as they do not cone-out the two piece contact point and end up jamming into the clutch. If you have a stubborn clutch, tip sled up with primary clutch topside. Fill bolt hole with oil, many guys use grease instead of oil. The oil/grease tends to swell the ID of the clutch as the puller is inserted/tightened which relaxes its grip on the crank. A ½ inch drive air-impact tool works good. Still won’t budge? Then hit/tap end of puller after fully tightened with hammer but use some judgment with the hammer as the blow is reacted via the crank bearings. Back off puller, run down again with impact tool. Keep doing that, they will come off. To prevent this situation in the future, put a small amount of Never-Seize on the crank taper before you re-install the clutch, a total amount about the size of a match head. Smear it around the taper, remember, it only takes a very little amount. Too much and you could spin the clutch on the crank, not good.
My .002 cents worth, hope it helps, good luck.

If I have a stubborn clutch I soak it with good penetrating oil the use an impact and load and unload it a few times soak and let it sit for a bit and try again. Some of these clutches had never been removed and are a little bit stuck, I have a one piece puller but I imagine the procedure will be the same for both.

I use the one piece puller. It has removed quite a few stubborn clutches.
I have found that packing it with grease does the trick.... Sometimes I have to repack it and give it a few tries.

I have used both and they both work. The idea behind the 2 piece puller is for 1 its easier to get in confined spaces and 2 it is not suppposed to spin against the crank like a solid 1 piece one would: not that thats a bad thing. You will not have anymore luck with a one piece because they are doing the same thing. Put a little oil or grease on the ball and socket on the two piece puller. This will eliminate friction as a problem there and usually like the other guys said a 1/2 inch impact on there should pop it off. As for the anti seize i would not recommend it on the clutch taper but by all means use it on the flywheel side. You do not want to spin a clutch because that can get messy. Hope this helps.

Clean, dry crank. Both clutch and flywheel. Failures can result.
