Runs fine then dies???
Hey guys/gals I have a JD 600 I think around a 73-74' model year that will run great for 20 minutes then all of sudden it will lose all power and just stall out and die. It will restart if you let it cool down for about an hour. I was wondering if it had something to do with bad coils or something different?

That's a strong possibility. Check to see if you have spark when it dies on one side or the other.

Roberts,
I would get it hot and do a basic check. You could be suffering from vapor lock, a clogged fuel filter, internal or external coils that are heat soaking and failing, or you are running too lean and overheating.
As Matt suggested, check for spark when it quits, then fuel by squiting fuel in the carb and see if it restarts. You can spray either around the PTO seal with the motor at idle to see if that seal is really shot, as Todd suggests.
But, I would say to check your plugs first, both for color (white-lean, black-rich) and spark.
I hope this helps,
