Prodigal son returns

Post by 400brian »

Last news was that Rainville was limping back to NY with one missing shoe, 4 tires are just so redundant! Something like out of "Grapes of Wrath"

Hey Joe, now you've got sleds AND a trailer to get ready for Waconia! :bonk:

Hi Guys,

As I come to expect, Linder is posting my trip report before I even step foot out the truck in NY, LOL!

There is some rumor to the truth that I had a little trailer trouble on this trip. When filling up with Diesel 20 miles from Iowa City, I noticed the left side rear hub was cracking. Since this was at 6:30 am on a Sunday, we drove slowly to Iowa City and waited for parts stores to open at 10:00.

A local gentalman was nice enough to let up back down his short one way street and loan us a jack and a few tools to get the repairs done. I was able to purchase a complete hub kit and get to work on the repair. Here is Adam getting the job done.

The rest of the trip went smoothly until dropping a customer sled in MI. The new hub, tire and rim were no where to be found. We shifted as much wait to the other side of the trailer and hoped the one tire held until NY. Once at Adam's place, we unloaded his 02 Rev from the truck, and Interceptor out of the trailer, and put my 09 Cat in the truck. It then made it the last 1.5 hrs w/o incident. Here is a pic from this morning:

The Waters did call me on the road and remark that at least this one wasn't his fault. I informed him that he stressed the the hubs last year so it was just a delayed faillure. As Linder noted, I need to replace the end of the axle, entire brake assembly and check all the other hubs BEFORE Waconia!

It must be due to all those heavy Dators he has been moving around the country the last few years.

Time for a triple Joe!

I could have helped you out Joe. I only live about 5 miles North of Interstate 80 by Iowa City.

I'm glad to hear it all worked out and you made the rest of the trip OK.

Problems like this just make trips interesting and memorable. Not a troublesome trip at all .

People that have no issues on road trips have a boring time. You have had an experience you can
tell the Grandkids some day.

When they say back to you in 40 years " Grandpa ...what's a Dator ? "
