1973 400 recoil question

Post by joe1267 »

I am ordering a carb rebuild kit tomorrow for this sled from MFG supply and want to know before I do if I should grab a recoil spring as well. She pulls over pretty easy, BUT it takes a bit of time for the rope to recoil all the way. Does this simply sound like a worn spring or could it be dirty? I want to have my wives sled up and running next Saturday since we have a lot of snow up at our camp. Is this pretty straightforward to change out?

Had a ton of fun riding both my '73 JDX8 and the 400 on both our lake and the trails. I had the 400 up to just about 50mph according to the speedo. God I love these old sleds.

Turns out they race some big nitrous sleds on our lake thru the winter. Looking forward to seeing them....Joe

It sounds like it just needs a good cleaning and lubed up.
