Drain all the old fuel out of it and flush with soap water or degreaser. -Luke

I use brake clean for the most part then just fluch with straight gas until it comes out clean, soap and water is fine if you have a heated shop or want to bring it in the house, but for me that's not an option.

Oven cleaner in a spray can works very good. Spray the whole can in and throw a piece of chain or nuts and bolts in and shake it up to loosen any junk. Dump the the chain and oven cleaner out and rinse with gas and you should be good to go.

Thats for a metal tank no? I sprayed some oven cleaner on some plastic by accident on a ski-doo I'm finishing and man did it make a white staining mess....not to mention I'm not sure I would be bangin anything hard metal around in a plastic tank that's 30 years old.mikehjd wrote:Oven cleaner in a spray can works very good. Ya notice how this same subject comes up about once a month? There must be a FAQ somewhere.

Yes Don, it's included in the "trouble shooting your sled" FAQ.
I've used the oven cleaner in steel tanks with good results. I've never tried it in the plastic tanks, you'd think the plastic would be non-reactive.

I've used oven cleaner in the 00 series and the fire series with good results.
Re: best way 2 flush a plastic tank
I just cleaned a plastic tank of an X8 and it was gummed up really bad with varnish and sh*t. I scraped out alot of the big chunks, then I sprayed 3 cans of carb cleaner and dumped in some nuts, bolts and washers and shook the piss out of it
came out like new

You know I have heard that works.
Drink a 12 pack of Blatz and releave yourself in the rusty tank.
When the DT's set in throw you nuts in the tank and hold onto it.
The tank will be clean.

Re: best way 2 flush a plastic tank
Just a note on this thread...when you have a good 1/2 inch of sludge....and you throw in enough carb and brake cleaner to loosen it....be prepared for the nuts to get stuck in the sludge in the tank....SOB!!! LOL I hope sitting over night will loosen things up!
