Questionable track

Post by Danzig... »

My advice if you have a questionable track.

DO NOT TRUST IT!!

Change it out or let the sled sit till you find one. They bite very hard when they come apart at high speed.

Back in the day's when most every sled had a bogie suspension, a friend of mine who used to be one of the owners of the original Sno-Stuff told me he was riding a big CC sled hi speeding it down a gravel road with hard pack on it & shelled the track out the back, he said he went about mile dragging his feet trying to get it stopped.. NO track, No brakes....
Just think Danzig if you shelled the track on your Rumble Pussy at WOT on a big lake with Bare Ice how far you'd go :lol22:

Gads that really sucks Paul.

Maybe once you get a replacement track on that beast you should unplug the #3 spark plug wire as a preventive measure.

got another track for it and it will be going on Monday, just gotta get to the store and get some new undies first. I just about lost it at that speed, all I could do was ride it out. I drug it through about 40 yards of snow and corn stalks, I dont know how I kept it up and didnt roll it. The snow flap is tore up, the back of the seat looks like accupuncture, the rear grab bar is bent, my sleeve on my JD snow suit is tore, right front ski loop is broke due to towing it home with my truck, luckily I am fine. I could be in the hospital right now according to the Arctic Cat guys, I was lucky. Lesson learned, the track was about a 6, I restudded it this summer. I had about 20 miles on it this year.

You are lucky it was a clean separation and ejection straight out the back.
If a track locks up at that speed it is always bad deal...very bad.

When you play with a kitty yer bound to get scratched!! LOL

I had the track on my very 1st sled (78 Spitty) come spitting out and lock up the sled, but I was maybe going 20 mph....the worst part of that day was being towed to the house and knowing my season.....and a few more were over. Thank God I convinced the Ol'Man to buy a 75 300, and threw my 340 in it!

This is why I posted this. Lots of these older sleds have tracks that are..well..better off made into trailer runners. Any speed and locking up is trouble.

If it would have locked up.....

I had a older Cat full cleated 17 inch bust a cleat and lock up the track at 20 mph and it still put the sled into a slide and it rolled twice.

At 105 you would have still been rolling.

Glad your OK my friend.

all good here..

Just you guys running the VC challenges in the middle of nowhere on old tracks....I have never seen an ambulance with skis on it in St. Germaine on trails

Remember about the 340's having suspension problems..breakage..

Guys better slow her down a bit..old tracks..in gods country...
