73 400 air intake question

Post by joe1267 »

I just rebuilt the carb for my wife's sled and will be putting in on this weekend. I currently only have one of the velocity stacks with the screen/foam on the end and am wondering if I am better off searching for a stock air box. Are there any potential tuning issues with using the velocity stack as opposed to the air box? Any input appreciated....Joe

Joe,

I took the stock air box off of my 600 and i don't run anything on it. In the winter, dust is minimal, so i don't worry too much about it. Whatever you do, you will need to readjust the carb accordingly. I see no issues with running the velosity stack as you currently are. If i'm wrong, someone will let me know :winter:

1972 400 and 500 actually cam with a velosity stack, also I run my 400 without the airbox because it has a tillitson on it and that is too long for the airbox to fit, also my dual mikuni 600 runs without one and everything stays clean.

Thanks for the info guys. I figured I was OK, but wanted to ask those more experienced with these sleds first. Can't wait to get out on the trail this weekend...
