Crank seal John Deere 500 1972

Post by wetwelly68 »

Hello, i own a John Deere 500 1972 the engine is a ccw 436 and i did a tune up on it (points, new carb etc) because it havent ran for about 2 years. So when i started it it has very good power but has it warms up, it cant stay primed. So, i used carb cleaner on Engine base, rpm goes up a bit. so ill make a new one for this problem. After i sprayed some on the crank and the rpm goes up pretty much. so from what i can see i will need to change both my base seal and my crank seal. The only thing is that it is getting pretty hard to find parts for JD 500 72 sleds. If u guys could help me to find where i can buy a crank seal it would help me pretty much. Everything has been timed and im 99% certain it is the seals that i gotta change. Thank you.

You can get seals from any auto parts store. If they do not stock the size you need most can have it the next day from their regional warehouse.

Try www.vintagesnow.com

I believe the seals you need are 25x62x7

There is no gasket between the case halves, it is sealed with an anerobic sealer such as Yamabond.
