X8 Smokes alot

Post by mikex8 »

I just fired up my '74 X8 and it seems to smoke alot and not idle smooth

I havent been able to tune the engine yet as am waiting for clutch parts

but it seems to me that it is smoking way too much, could it be just from sitting too long?

Smoke is normal, especially after sitting for a long time. Nothing to worry about unless it's to the point that your fouling plugs.

Could just be the oil your using, some is worse then others...try the Shell Advance semi-synth and you'll find it's a bit cleaner...I've been using Castrol in my old dogs lately and it smokes pretty bad, but seems to run fine and not foul plugs like the CDN TIRE stuff we have up here.

If you are running 20:1 like we did back in the day they will smoke plenty.

Newer oils work great at 40:1 or 50:1.

Sorry... generation gap jargon.

To 86 something is to turn it to junk.

Old fuel can cause sparkplugs to fail.

Fubar??

Maybe if you said "86 the plugs" I might have gotten that one....but as old as I feel most days I'll admit that went over my head!
