I ran my x8 40:1 with the cheap gas station oil and amsoil. Brands didnt make a huge difference with it but mine never really ran that great to begin with.

OIL is OIL , lol i actually use klotz, might be over-kill or a bit spendy for the older sleds, but i cant afford to make a mistake and fill my race sleds with cenex502 or such so i just use klotz,
But on the other hand i remember the way back days of my dad pre-mix there was no way he was sold on an expensive two-stroke oil, are you guys ready for this, he allways used a staight 10 weight motor oil, the only problem that i can remeber is that the tx800 smelled like the old dodge grain truck(oil burner) lol, and maybe a boat-load of carbon build, and rarley a fouled plug, and last winter my brother and i rebuilt him a 93 phazer to putz around on, and yes guess what he filled it with the old 10weight, so he thinks, we knew he was going to do this, so we dumped the gallon on amaco 10 weight back in the drum and dumped four quarts of two-stoke back in the gallon jug, so far so good!!! and if he doesnt get anymore than 23 miles on it a year that gallon should last a long time !!
take care now!!!
just use a GOOD oil and you will be ok.

I might regret it someday but not yet. I use walmart brand 2cycle oil its like $7 a gallon has worked good so far at 40.1 even use it in my newer injected sleds. I bought an x4 last year and the guy had it mixed with amsoil it selled good and didnt smoke hardly at all the sled still ran the same with the wally worl oil just smoked much more. I would have to say if I had a high $$$ or unreplacable motor I think Id use that amsoil but for now just use the cheap stuff.

I started to use amsoil synthetic 50:1 in my dators and after buying a case i realized i was never going to run out. so i now run it in all my sleds.
Thanks,
Ted

The only real requirement is that it is TCW3 rated 2-stroke oil. Any generic brand that has this rating is usable.

Anyone tried BlueMarble oil? They do lots of advertizing and they sell the stuff in lots of places. Just wondered if it was any good. Dave

What I run is a synthetic oil TCW3 rated 2 stroke And the mix ratio look in the manual or on the sled for right one. Brand of oil, I dont think that maters. Its kinda like cars and trucks everyone has the Brand thay like the most.

if you run any TCW3 rated oil today will work good. Just make sure you premix your ratios correctly. I have used amzoil for a long time no probs. Back in the early 80"s when 2 stroke oil was oil everyone just poured in the 50:1 and that worked to.

Thats interesting that some of you guys use synthetic in these old sleds. From what I was told, you arent supposed to use synthetic in vintage sleds because the seals arent designed for it.
I used to own a '78 Polaris TX 340 and when I first got it I wasnt sure what oil I should use, so I called Polaris and asked them. They informed me that I shouldnt use synthetic in that sled. They said that synthetic would ruin the seals and that I should only use Polaris Blue (not synthetic).

Correct Me If I'm wrong. But I dont think its the oil, It would be the unleaded Fuel that would do more damage to the seals on the vintage sleds That requiered Leaded fuel?

I've been running Syn. Oil in my '72 400 for about 6 years now and never rebuilt the motor "yet"

:D , It's all orig. with 1100 miles on it now (sep a carb. rebuild) and haven't had a prob. with it. But I have been running unleaded in it also. So you've got me on this one.

Maybe I'm wrong and have been lucky

you can play with whatever brand of oil you want. i personnaly use a race full synthetic that doesnt leave an aftersmell and i mix at 50:1 alhtough with the oil i use i can go even less oil.

the biggest thing about oils and fuels is how you use them.. if your racing at 14000 rpms walmart oil just wont cut it. if your running a high achole content you need to add more oil.

just a note a full synthetic oil should not gel up at extreme low temps a non systhetic will gel up or even a half blend will this is why oil injection systems are unreliable at really cold temps due to gel factor and manufactures recommend premixing even brand new two and four cycles a bit in fuel if riding in low temps for extended periods.
