Which direction should the hose that comes off the air box point in?
If someone has a picture that they could post that would be great.

If you have the U - shaped hose, it typically is pointed down and behind the airbox to pull in the most benign air possible. Take care to clamp it securely on to the screen housing without crushing the steel mesh and keep the hose just above the jackshaft.
The parts book does show a different hose designed to gather air from inside the dash housing, but I personally have never seen one of those. I think it did not work out the best and was replaced in most cases.
