I have an 80 LF. The mechanic said the stator coils were out of spec. (I saw the old coils and stator plate and it was a mess.) He replaced the internal coils and everything was in spec. He cleaned up the wire connections and put it all together. Now the Tachometer doesn't work. (At $85/hr I am not sure I want to have him go through it again.) The tach did work prior to the coil trouble. IS it possible that it might be a wire connection between the tach and the coil connection?
Also: I took the sled out on a SHORT test run. It ran a bit rough. At high rpm under sustained load (Deep ditch snow) I kept pushing the throttle and rpm up and towards the top it seemed to spit and sputter a bit. With the coils (internal and external all in spec) could it be a cdi or rev limiter that is the source of a bit of spitting at high load and rpm? I am new to this LF thing......

Do the lights work?
If the lights work then you probably have a connection problem with the tach or the main harness.
As the tach works off of the lighting coil, if the lights work the coil is OK.
The Rev limiter could be the issue wuith the topend shutter.

I just checked and the lights do NOT work now. (They worked before the mechanic replaced the internal coils). What will he need to redo?
Also, is there a way to prevent exhaust from seeping out between the exhaust manifold and the muffler connection?

Check the connector from the stator.
You can check for AC volts on the ground and hot wire from the lighting coil when you pull the rope over.
Or you can check ohms at the connector.
