76 LF fuel problems

Post by JDXspec »

First off my LF has been running great until the issue today. I think it maybe a fuel filter so I will replace that and see how it goes. But heres the issue. I went out out today after putting in new premium gas(About 4 gallons). I went around out section and through our pasture today. The first 3 miles went Good, then I noticed the eng seemed to be lacking power (first time I have noticed this condition this year). Then it seemed to be runnning on only one cylinder. Then after about 100 feet of this it died. As i sat there wondering what was the problem I choked it and it started with a little effort. It moved OK for about 1/4 mile and bogged out and died again. Thinking it was a fuel issue I cked my lines and watched the fuel flowing. the Mag side carb has very little air in it so it should be getting plenty of fuel, But the PTO side had a lot of air and fuel seems to struggle to make it over the peak of the line. Does the fuel pump have more power to one carb or the other? I don't see why one carb should get more fuel than the other. Is it time for a pump rebuild? Both plugs are the same color and look to be OK color wise.
Ideas appreciated

jdx,
I would replace both filters. If you have a clear external filter laying horizontal, it should only be 1/2 full. As the filter gets clogged, the fuel level will rise and fill it completely.

Well it turns out my fuel shut off was plugged. It would only drip out of it. Pull the line of the tank and it would stream out of it. So I got that fix then took it out and it runs great. (As it did before) Then I noticed that I had fuel pouring into my belly pan.

:o I think i lost most of my fuel.

:o tore into that and found my inlet fitting came out. <_< Well I rebuilt the fuel pump anyway since I had it out and I loctited the fitting in so it won't come out again. (hopefully) So now all lines and filters are new. Back to blissful riding on the last snow of the yr.

i have the exact problem with my cyclone, it will run great for about a mile then shut off, then it will run for about a hundred feet and quit. i'll go through the fuel lines somethime and see whats clogged now. also i know how you feel about the fitting being pulled out, i sliced my gas line with the recoil rope on my trailfire and pulled fitting out while trying to pull of line, so i lost about a gallon in the belly pan.

Just an update you can get the in tank check valve/screen filters at your local sled shop for about 3+ bucks. I got mine at my honda/yamaha dealer and check polaris for a price dfference and is the same and have them in stock.
