Hi All.
I recently rebuilt the 440/5 in my '73 600. I ran it in the chassis for the first today. I am pretty happy with it, but it wants to lope a bit when it idles and i cannot seem to tune it out with the carb. I have a feeling that the ignition timing may be a bit too far advanced, but i would like to get some other opinions on it before i take it apart again. It is set at .020 BTDC which is definately in the more advanced part of the range listed in the service manual. Is this a problem i need to worry about or is this somewhat normal? The plugs are a nice chocolate brown, and it is very snappy off the line. I just don't want to hurt my fresh engine.
Thanks,
DE

Re: 600 Lope?
how does it start when it's hot? If it doesn't stall, and the plugs look good you shouldn't be hurting anything...but to make sure you could run it hot, then swap out the plugs and start it and let it idle..no bursts....then after a min plull those plugs and inspect them...if thier more white then you might be harming it

Great! Thanks. I put about 10 miles on it tonight and the plugs still look good. I'll try that trick tomorrow and see what i get.
