what kind of battery does the starter use in the 1979 trailfire 440? how many cold cranking amps? thanks

I went to fleet farm and picked up a battery for a lawn tractor, 600cca's I think?

The battery type/group is a 10U1L type battery. It has a 300 CCA rating. You can get them anywhere that sells small batteries. I bought mine at my local JD dealership for around $32.00. I also installed a "Battery Tender" to maintain the charge during the down time.

I put my lawnmower battery in it, its rated at 300cca and all it would do is click. think i need a bigger battery.

As long as it is a charged 12v battery, it should work. More likely your starter or soleniod is bad.

As far as CCAs go, the more the better.
