82 Liquifire Question
82 Liquifire Question
This past weekend I acquired an 82 Liquifire for the collection. This is mostly uncharted territory for me as I have mainly stuck to the 76-78 machines and am relatively unfamiliar with these. I had an 80 but only owned it for a summer and had to sell it in the fall due to money constraints. My question is this: Is the 82 supposed to have heated handle bars and if so, is there supposed to be a switch for them? Right now I have one side heated, the other side is missing. There is not a switch for it so I am assuming it is on all the time. Would it be possible for someone to send me a few high res photos of what the 82 panel and handle bars should look like as well as under the hood? I don't have any of the manuals or parts catalog for this sled yet like I do the 76-78. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Re: 82 Liquifire Question
I have an 82 Liquifire, it is this summers project, so right now it has been stripped down to the bare chassis. It does have hand warmers on it. I also have an 82 Sportfire, it too has the hand warmers. Both installations are identical, using the same switches, wiring, connectors, and location of the switch. Not sure if they are original or not, but they look like a factory installation. However, I would guess they would be a dealer installed option, and not factory installed. Someone else may have more insight on this. There is also a "hand warmer' decal that was on the Sportfire, which is no longer there. Here are some pics, if you click on them they are pretty good pics.

Re: 82 Liquifire Question
It could be factory or dealer install, but it's OEM stuff. The only things missing are the rubber switch grommet and decal next to the switch. Both of those items typically fail over time.
Re: 82 Liquifire Question
This helps a ton! Thanks so much for the pictures. Are the tachs on the 80's the same as they were on the 76-78?

Re: 82 Liquifire Question
The face is the same, the size is the same, the connectors are different. The 76-78 have 3 individual male connectors. The Sporfire will have 3 wires in one connector. I think you can still plug the old version, using the 3 individual wires, into the Sportfire harness, as it has female connectors. Just make sure you have the wires connected correctly. One wire is for the tach light, the other 2 are for the tach. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

Re: 82 Liquifire Question
The first generation CCW powered tachs are different than the Kawwy ones.
They look the same but are not interchangeable electrically.

Re: 82 Liquifire Question
Thanks for the clarification Todd. I wasn't sure if they would work or not.
