Just to confrim, Vintageselds.com has several unsatisfactory posts about Sleddboy. He has apparently been kicked off e-bay several times before and then let back on again. E-bay's priority is apparently its own revenue, buyer beware.

JDGuy I hope you weren't throwing a blanket over Ebay. It's been a wonderful thing for me and I both buy and sell. I just sold one of our surplus firetrucks, a 74 Ford 4x4 with 24,000 miles for $8207.00 and all that money goes back to the local taxpayers. The best local offer I could get was $6,000.00. Anyway, it's ok to avoid Ebay yourself but don't ask everyone to. As with any transaction, one has to be careful. I just took at look at Sleddboy's feedback and that would be enough for me to never purchase from him. He's only at 92.7% good feedback and that's not good enough for me to buy from. Even a lot of his "good" feedback was uncomplimentary. Just my .02 Don

I have bought several things from this person a few years ago and had no problem and even met him at Hay Daze. Now he might have changed, but all I can say I have had good luck with him in the past...

I know him personally. I have never bought anything from him and he seems like a nice guy.............but he does not have a very good business reputation. Peter

Hey Guys,

I also know "Sled Boy" Mark and speak to him when our paths cross at the few NY show he attends. I once asked him why he has such a bad rap, and it was a long and complex story about sled that were haul, not paid for, ect, ect...

But his Ebay feed back speaks for itself. I did one one item from him, and it took months to get. I don't trust him any further than I can throw him, but I have bought a few things from him in person, with cash. And, if Ebay lets him back on, than I say they are being careless with this person, in this case. I buy lots of stuff off Evil-Bay with Pay-up-Pal because they will duke it out with he seller if you get stiffed.

Moral of the story, is to use your judgement with some of these vintage characters, and stear clear of the known shady ones. There are guys I will never haul sleds for, because they stiffed other customers of mine. We are all in this together, to quote Red-Green.

I've delt with him also & had good luck, as a matter a fact he even brought one sled accross the boarder & met me so I didn't have the hassle at the boarder.

I'll add that PayPal has my support for their dispute resolution system.

I had a situation with an ebay seller in January. Bought a STB-172M ( '73 service textbook ) from a power seller in MN ( oneeyedfly ) never received. Her feedback was in the low 90's, well below my personal minimums, but at $12 I thought it was worth the risk. Also, I've never been burned on JD stuff yet.

After three weeks, and one out of three emails answered, I turned it over to ebay dispute resolution. Several years ago, I think that is where it would have stayed, I'm not aware of the PayPal process being in force three years ago, and ebay's dispute resolution is worthless, particularly in small $$ situations.

The dispute was turned over to PayPal, as that is how the item was paid for. The seller never responded tp PayPal, so they automatically ruled in my favor. BUT, as there was no $$ in the sellers account, they couldn't get me a refund. This is a seller that lists items daily!

A couple of weeks later, I get an email from ebay, asking me if the seller and I had mutually agreed to cancel the sale, ( as she was contending, to get out of paying ebay's selling fee ) I emphatically replied that I had agreed to no such thing!
Sent an email to seller asking her what the hell she thought she was doing, but as usual, she did not reply.

Shortly after, PayPal informed me that I had been sent a refund.

:) So PayPal came through for me in the end.

In several emails to the seller, ebay, and PayPal, I had repeatedly said I very much preferred delivery of the STB to a refund, but would accept a refund. She claimed the Post Office was losing her packages (manuals) in large numbers. I think she has a problem.

I have had dealt with Mark "Yo Man" Taylor a few times. His bad rap started about 5 yrs ago when he started buying big buck vintage sleds with fake money orders and certified checks.Mark did have a paypal account when he first started, but with all the claims customers had, you can see why he does not accept paypal anymore.I think he didnt like giving people their money back when he stiffed them for parts.Best way to buy from him is in person, and with cash.
