Re: 78 liquifire cross country
We must admit though, that the original post had most of us going "Oh boy, here we go again". Another "Baited" post. But the member came through with pictures and answering questions. Yes, there was/is interest in buying this sled, as there should be. Even my limited knowledge says this is a sled to want. And if the owner wants to sell it, and assure it a chance for a resto, then I applaud him for doing so. And I hope if it sells, that the owner and buyer get/give a fair price. This is a 78 CC for crying out loud. And my limited experience with 78 CC's came by helping "I500" Chuck, put the final numbers on his JRC's resto sled at Waconia. Talk about pressure!! Did I say it was JRC's race sled?
And did I read it right, I may have to move to Big Foot Country, as part of a trade? That's BS.

Re: 78 liquifire cross country
i sold the sled to someone who i'm sure will take much better care of it than i would've, lol, seeing as how i was just going to swap a bigger motor in and beat on it this winter. what's wrong with bigfoot country, just exactly, its nice this time of year. and as far as being snarky, lmao, i may not have any $100 fuelie vettes laying around, but i am trying to sell a petty hemi. i know its off topic, but just putting it out there.

Re: 78 liquifire cross country
Zacman, congrats on moving your CCLF, that was a good thing you did by saving it from the scrapheap. By the way, I was the one being SNARKY, whatever that is according to the mighty Rainville. I hope you stay connected to the site, there's some pretty good guys on here, very few as disturbing as myself. By the way, if that truly is a Petty Hemi you have I would be willing to go to $200 or maybe even $250. Hang in there and if you happen to run into Rainville kick him in the sack for me, thanks.

Re: 78 liquifire cross country
I have soooo loved this thread. I will have to admit that I am the lucky person to have bought this sled from Zac and allow me to say that while I was uncertain at first, Zac has turned out to be a real good dude!! I'm looking forward to picking it up next week and I can't wait to start the resto project. I feel very certain ( and yes you all can hold this against me someday ) that this is my final restoration project. Since I found and restored the 340/S I have had my heart set on a 78 LF CC. I've honestly never coveted a Dator like I have the CC. As of now, it is my intention to create, with this CC, what would have been my 78 racer had I still been cross country racing. Most likely it will have "9" on the hood. As some of you know, I've been buying 78 LF's lately and parts including some CC suspension parts. When I have the CC about done I will be selling everything I have left so if you're interested let me know. Also when I'm done my stable will include the 340/S, which is going to a museum as I've ridden it for the final time, and the 78 CC which will be my rider ( NOT my racer in the I-175 LOL) Also I will be selling all of my NOS 340/S parts, NOS miscellaneous parts and my used parts. Simply put, I'll be 65 in October and I plan on scaling back by then. Until then though I'm going to have a ball restoring the CC. THANKS ZAC!!

Re: 78 liquifire cross country
Congrats Don on closing the deal.
The 78 CC makes a great rider with a decient amount of suspension travel and a nice thick seat. Nice job on getting rid of Bob too.
Of course I would like to purchase and NOS or used CC and 340/s parts you have left over...and as I mentioned to zacman, I have the correct NOS hex driveshafts for them (w/o sprockets though) if you need one. Some advice: do not run the original white track drive sprockets. They won't last. Ask the Watersboy about the dent in his leg from the Boonville show a few years back. 80-81 Liquifire "bolt on" sprockets are the best replacments to use, but the 'press on' Kimpex ones work also.
Good luck with your latest project,
-Joe

Good job DA!
I suspected you were sandbagging by the "flavor" of your posts. Have fun restoring the CC.

Don
Retiring is just practicing up for being dead!
You might consider holding off on making huge changes until you get it all sorted out.
Rainville has been retired for almost a year and he is still figuring it all out.
You can always distribute the NOS parts in your will, and Joe doesn't need them anyway.

Re: 78 liquifire cross country
DA you mention that your 340s is going to a museum.
I thought it was included with the ba-zillion dollars that you offered Zacman in the deal along with Bob.
Ah.... who cares, if you have a ba-zillion dollars you can always buy another Bob.
Good luck with the CC.

Re: 78 liquifire cross country
Don,
It was a year ago that we stumbled on our 78CC. It was a ton of work just to make it into a rider for the HOF ride in Feb. and then it only made half the route. One thing the rest of you knew but I did not, this sled was a great jump forward for Deere in the day and still has the feel of the Dator and 340/S that the 80 to 84's do not have. A great vintage sled to ride many years into retirement!
The best with your new purchase and I look forward into sharing the trail with you and Bob again.

Re: 78 liquifire cross country
Keith, that is exactly why I had to have a '78 LF. Rainville had me drive his around the motel parking lot in '09, and I had the same exact reaction and feeling. It feels like a production version of the 340/S might have. One thing the rest of you knew but I did not, this sled was a great jump forward for Deere in the day and still has the feel of the Dator and 340/S that the 80 to 84's do not have.
I loved Ted's quote a while back: it's like pointing a bathtub down a ditch!

Congrats Don. No, I do not believe this is your last sled. sheeesh what a load!
