Rev Limiter Integrated In '76 Liqufire Ignitions?

Post by Liquify »

We are in the process of building a super mod 340 Liquifire for oval competition. Our engine builder asked whether our '76 ignition system has a rev limiter integrated in the cdi as he has come across this situation in the past with other vintage engine modifications. Do any of you know the answer? Thanks. Great site!

NO rev limiter on the older Liquifire / Kioritz engines, Just on the newer liquifires with the Kawasaki engines..

Actually, if it's a Prestolite, it does internally have a limiter. Nothing you can set a tachometer to, as there is variation from unit to unit. The limiter was not there to save the engine, rather a limit to reduce the RPM when the voltage into the CDI exceeds a pre-set threshold. This was to save the CDI internals from over-voltage & just happened to also work as an RPM limiter.
