Ok here's the stupid question for the day.
For years I've used 1/4" ID poly fuel line for the JD sleds I've owned. Recently, I was at my local Artic Cat dealer picking up some parts. I asked for one of the in tank check valves and a 1/4" filter. When the owner brought them out of the parts room he had a puzzled look on his face, and asked "are your sure you want a 1/4" filter"? He told me that all the JD sleds used 3/16" ID fuel line from the tank to the carbs and 1/4" ID line is typically used on 700cc and larger engines. I ended up getting what he called a 3/16 filter. Oddly enough the item description on his receipt listed the filter as 3/16 - 1/4".
So for the last few days I've been obsessed with this. I've found several catalogs that list the tank checks and fuel fitters as 3/16 - 1/4. Likewise I had a short piece of 3/16 poly tubing and sure enough it goes on the carbs. I suspect that the mikuni hose barbs are actually a metric size.
I'm curious what size fuel line others use or what is technically correct?

1/4" usauly, have used 5/16" for some stuff-have to use hose clamps as the spring clamps dont work as well
bigger is better right
larger size = less restistance to flow = better right?
i thought JD originaly used 1/4"

When up north I went to the local Deere dealer (also sells Ski Doo ) I wanted 1/4" clear line ( for a JD 317 Trans fill level line ) The stuff they sold me was 1/4" ID but smaller OD so the spring clamps didn't work anymore, go figure

I had the same experience with fuel line from my local dealer and have a container of those spring clips awaiting a home because they no longer fit.
