Re: need some wow factor
This isn"t much of a wow but i bought 79 spitfire at a yard sale.I just kinda walked around like i didnt see it finally i walked over to it i asked the guy what he had on the sled . He said what would i give for it. I asked if it ran he said it has not been ran since 81.He said his dad bought it new.I could tell by looking at it that it did"nt have any miles on it at all.Skis were not all rusted ,tunnel straight, seat not torn, perfect windshield, hood was busted where the hinges mount [easy fix]inside the hood. The track could have been sold as new.I told him i could use it for parts he told me to make him a offer. There wasnt even any exhaust blow bye [oil] on the fins it was just dusty. iI offered him 25.00 he said sold i almost fell over. And he even helped me load it.But wait it gets better. He goes in the house and comes out with a helmet, owners manual, and 1 set of wear bars.He opens the manual and inside was his fathers name and address .Now i feel guilty so i spent another 50 on other stuff he had for sale.Where i live in Ohio[central]there isnt alot of jds but what there is are usually low hour machines[miles].I have probablly bought 6 in the past 2 months.People bought them the year of our big blizzard used them 2 to 4 years done.I have bought other nice sleds but not nearly that cheap. And if it makes you feel any better i havent found any liquidators lurking in a barn any where myself.Good luck Brock

He he Brock, you haven't been looking hard enough. I've been all over the Columbus area buying sleds for the past few years. You guys in Circleville are too busy with Pumpkin Festival LOL. By the way the first three buffalo I bought came from Circleville in about 1985.skoalmint wrote:And if it makes you feel any better i havent found any liquidators lurking in a barn any where myself.Good luck Brock

Re: need some wow factor
Wade i have found a bunch of mid mounts and bought them pretty reasonable, a few cyclones, 83 liquifire.. I did find a 84 sport and it looks like it is mint condition... but the price tag is a little much for me right now ... i did buy a really cool sled but of "other brand" .. i bought it at an auction. found out it is fairly rare ? but the good news is i am trading it for a 83 lf with 850 miles on it just need an 81' now too finish the 2nd gen l/f's .. The cool thing about buying all these sleds is, the people i meet and their stories... I guess when all said and done you meet some really nice people and some that have dollar signs in there eyes those are the ones i steer clear of :lol22 Something else that was cool this summer is Dustin (jd600) and I drove out east to meet Matt and Pat (harley sportster) Super nice guys!!!! Had a great time sharing .. we actually met at a neat place called Rough and Tumble to see a 2 cylinder John deere tractor show , which was cool .. thanks guys ...

Re: Need some wow factor
I haven't purchase any cool Deere's this year, but I did find out one of my Liquidators was Minnapolis Branch Team sled. Not quite a factory ETD racer, but darn close enough for me.
What I did find and purchase is a rare IFS CC racer prototype. The Deere relate is that it was ETD's Doug Oster's 1980 IFS Direct Drive Liquid Cooled Team Arctic racer that he ran in the Prototype class. They only built two of these, so I was thrilled to make the deal. I will be picking it up at Princeton where Tom Rowland will have it on display at his booth.
I already purchased Doug's 79 IFS Cat Proto racer, and his 09 Cat Sno Pro 600. Now if I can find one of his Prototype 78 CC Liquifire's he campained in 77 I would be a very happy collector.
Keep digging guys, these sleds are out there!

Re: need some wow factor
I had a wow factor this evening, the Rotax was running in the Deere chassis for the first time tonight. My wiring hack job appears to be somewhat right, it had spark and the lights/tach worked.
