As always people are more than free to do what they like with their sleds. It just kind of well "sucks" that you came on here and got alot of help and info in getting this sled running correectly when you only intentions were to sell it and make a buck. Then if the 1st kick in the ass wasnt enough you try and advertise it on here.
Like I said its a free country and you can do as you wish. Just dont expect me to add any info on anything else you may ask.

I hear ya Andy.
Without making any assumptions about the individual in question, ( lets make that absolutely clear! ).
There are at least two kinds of hobbyists. I'll call them "holders", and "flippers"
Doesn't matter what hobby you are in, you always have them.
The holders generally resent the flippers, because they are viewed as out to make a buck. Often, the "holders", are the guys with the knowledge, parts, and willingness to assist others. It takes both I guess, but some days you have to hold your ass with both hands, it aches so bad because of the flippers. :ph43r:
Let's recognize it, but not get hung up over it. ( I had the same feeling, Andy )
Your mileage may vary.

Excellent comments on this issue guys. This site is an awesome resource and the FAQ section is a tool which I used frequently during the restoration of my 76 cyclone and I'm sure i will use again and again . As new comers enter the site they will often ask questions that are already covered in the FAQ section and many of the regulars on the site think nothing of anwering the questions even though if you look a little the answers are already available . This is just another testimony to the quality of the regular members of the site . I believe that we will always have the the guys looking to make a buck asking questions for the quick fix , but there is always the equal possiblity that the new person will have the passion that most of do and add to the growing number of good members that contribute to this great resource .
thanks again
Kevin

boy what a kick in the behind from some of you i ask questions and this is what i get !jdfanpa boy i'm glad i don't have you for a friend,i was told by a lot of people if you ever get a jd snowmobile to go to the jd site for info and they are happy to help but i guess they were wrong.some of you were a great help as i am a guy who buys a sled any sled older if possible and will bring it back to life so someone else can enjoy.my sled is a yamaha gpx 433 i collect them but other sleds give me a challenge like this jd cyclone 440 it was a bear to figure out but we and i say WE got it done and i thank you all as i did before.i'm fixing this up and hope a jd fan will buy it if not than thats ok,but on the other hand i'm not out to try to make a killing on any sled i do i do this for fun and if i make a buck thats ok and if i lose a buck well than i got some experience doing it.and most of you out there when you do sell a sled you all try to make money like i said before it is all fun.i would like to thank all that helped me and hope to get more help if i need it because this is the first site i joined and this is the thanks i get,but anyways if i belonged to any other club i would help as much as possible because it will in turn help me some day .that is the way the world is supposed to work i thought.

The gripe is not that you asked questions, but that people here helped you out, then you do a quick turn-around and sell. I think under normal circumstances it wouldn't be a big deal, but I think we've seen a bit much of it here lately.codebluemi wrote: boy what a kick in the behind from some of you i ask questions and this is what i get

i have my 2 spits. and u guys have helped me out alot on them and i thank u. but i can only have 1 sled and am probly going to sell them to buy my dream sled sportfire. now i have asked questions to get them running and have used them both so does it make it so its a kick in the balls to every one for selling it?

no not to me spitfireguy you have used your sleds and also added in helping others..........like Matt said it might not be a problem normally but we have seen to much on the quick turn around.............I also sell off other brand sleds and parts to fund my deere sleds........have even sold and offered deere stuff to people on here in need and have never hidden this but Ive never asked for help on any other board to get anything going just to sell it...........in fact arcticchat.com is the only other board I frequent since I also have a few newer cats that I ride................so if Im a bad guy for saying what was on my mind so be it........................the end

I think you have it all wrong. If you sell one of your Spits to buy a Sportfire ( or any JD sled ) No one is going to gripe, after all, many of us are probably chasing that "dream sled". You wouldn't be cashing in, you'd be trading up, or over, or whatever.
Codebluemi; You are over reacting, JDFANPA is a good guy, if you spend any time here, you will see that he has spent a lot of time here trouble shooting sled problems.
If he didn't enjoy it, he wouldn't do it.
We know you are not going to get rich on that sled, that is not really the issue, we are just disappointed you don't like your Cyclone enough to keep it <_< BUT, you are correct! You got it running, perhaps saving it from the dump, and now someone else can enjoy it
and it is yours to do whatever you want with.
This issue has nothing to do with this site, it has more to do with human nature. I have seen this come up in the old car hobby, antique tractors, airplanes, and I'm betting it goes on in any other hobby you can mention. It shouldn't make any difference to us what you do with your Cyclone, but it does, because we are JD enthusiasts.
But it is not a big deal.
I will offer one caveat; If a person gets the reputation for being a flipper, he may find others less willing to offer help, and you may not qualify for the "good guy" discount, when it comes to parts offered from guys personal stashes.
Keep in mind it is now the off season, and we don't have much to talk about

i didn't mean to seem mad but this is what i do i bring sleds back from the dead that would normally go to the scrap yard .when i'm done someone else can finish them up to there standards and go from there .when i'm done with this sled sometimes i keep them and sometimes i will sell them just depends how they turn out.i have a 69 &70 evinrude skeeters ,71 ski-doo nordic,3 75 yamaha gpx's and 2 sno-prince GT-500 in my collection.i just pick sleds at random which look like fun to work on and get them back from the dead.i'm sure you all have done the same at one time or another.i did use your guys info on where to get parts from this site and they were great to me and i thank you all for that.i hope everybody can see my side of it and i will be there for anybody else in time of need.
thanks again for listening,BOB

codebluemi, I am with you on this one. At the beginning of last season I had 5 Deere's. I now have only 1. I am also in the process of purchasing another one. I like to tinker with the old Vintage sleds as it brings back memories of my old days in the sport. Purchased our first sled in 1969 ans have been involved with sleds every year since. I find them --most not running, fix them up and then sell them--Sometimes I make a few bucks but many times I loose or break even. Either way I have had fun and put a sled back on the snow and in the hands of someone who wants it. I wouldn't let some of these comments bother you or in any way make you feel guilty for selling the Cyclone--hey if it wasn't running and needed work I would be interested in it. You may make another Deere enthusiast by selling it to him. Good Luck and keep tinkering with your old sleds, whatever the brand. Attend shows and help others if you can with your knowledege and experience. THAT's WHAT IT"s ABOUT. I hope your Deere goes to a good home and that it will be out on the snow again next season.

As a contributor to info for the FAQ section, I don't mind at all if non JD enthusiasts use the info to repair JD sleds and then sell them. I try and help anybody I can. At least the JD sled is saved from the scrap yard and bought buy someone who will appreciate it. I recommend that the seller pass on any info to the buyer such as:
any known history
any repairs performed on the sled
leads on "parts" suppliers

People should be able to do whatever they want with a sled they buy. When i use to be into old sleds, i would buy them and fix them up and sell them, thats was what intersted me, i liked working on them more than i liked riding them. I can see nothing wrong with that and people need to grow up.
