78 liquifire 440 pistons

Post by skoalmint »

Hello guys Does anyone no if they have or even make pistons 010.over for the liquifire.I have 020.over but it seems like alot to take out. One cylinder has some scratches that i believe will come out with 010. The pistons i have are i believe SPI brand are they any count? I want to do this right. Is there somthing better? What should the clearance be the manual says 005.is that correct? Kenny or Harley spoke about making it to tight ,that the 2cycles need a little more clearance so i guess what i am asking is what is just right for a new bore job? Got my crank back from Jerome today i was blown away it looks brand new. Thanks for your help.Brock

The standard bore size is 2.5998 to 2.6006 inch with a 0.005 inch wear tolerance
The standard piston skirt size is 2.5929 to 2.5937 with a 0.008 inch wear tolerance
The ring end-gap should be 0.012 to 0.016 inch
You need to have someone measure the bore and pistons to see if they are still in spec before replacing parts.
An over-size cylinder bore job is matched to an over-size piston, not the other way around. The end gap on new rings must be set to specs.
DennisKirk still lists 0.010 over pistons.

well-stated one other comment i would add is the variation in pistons from box to box last winter i was going through parts and found a huge range of sizes as much as .oo1 or .002 in sets the "same size" . when wortking on my 340/s we were about to hone about .0025 out with standard wisecos and have perfect clearance . cleaned up nice at that wade

Thanks guys I have looked a thousand times at my DK catalog and never seen those 010. over. Now my next problem is finding someone that is smart enough to do the bore job. Most of the small engine shops around here when i say snowmobile they look at me and say you mean they still make those things.I just need to find someone that will do everthing you said needed to be done.Got any one in mind? Thanks Brock
