Wade,
I have found it. It says 30 or 197 ohms each measured against the common (green I assume). Where exactly on the motor is this ring located? Behind the stator?

lagunaman,
I would have directed you to the FAQ section earlier but it looked like you were already familiar with it. There is a chart with the color code of wires and how to test them. The pictures show the "B" style plugs but the color code is the same for the round style that you have. The stator and timing ring are under the flywheel.

The timing ring should measure 30 ohms, + or - 10%

I have checked both wires to the trigger coil and both are right at 30 Ohms. Anything else to check before I condemn the used CDI box we got?

If you ohmed out with good results, the Stator, timing ring and coils and you have the key switch / kill switch unplugged and no spark, then my guess is the CDI is bad.

Thank you everyone for all of your help. We took the used CDI back but they did not have another one. Does anyone have one for sale that they know is good? It is the two plug type with round plugs
Thanks!

2 types were used...either 30-ohms between wires (2X that between the other wires), or 197-ohms each & 2X that using the other 2 wires...Scott
