Finally bagged a deere
Hey guys, been pulling clunkers from the weeds for years but never filled my deere tag. Just last weekend at some grass drags my friends were giving me heck that Barn Fresh Racing doesn't have a john deere in the stable, but, finally got one today. A 1980 liquifire, not in the best of shape but not too bad either. Only main part missing is the carbs, anybody have the size and jetting? Clutches will need gone through, but it rolls over nice and the track looks to be good. Had a good sized wasp nest above the tail light.

Carbs should be 36mm Mikuni powerjet carbs like on the 440 Invaders. Not sure if JD used the same jetting as the Invaders or not.

Re: Finally bagged a deere
I have two carbs off of a 80 LF. They will need a cleaning and such. Let me know.

Re: Finally bagged a deere
Well, looks like this deere has chronic wasting disease. Upon first inspection the motor turned over real nice with good compression, chassis looked decent with 800 miles on the speedo. Pulled the motor and first noticed that half the crank seals were literally gone. Then found the carb boots were shot. PTO side motor mount starting to delaminate. Got the motor apart, found chrome flaking off the cylinders, bottom end filled with water. Took the flywheel off, one of the magnet's starting to crack. Took apart the pto side and found broken gears and work out case bearings. On the bright side, scrap prices are up.
