I looked the serial number up on Deere's dealer web site and it says it was settled for on Nov 11 1980, sold to PUR FM FAC USED X and its had all it PIP's done. Warranty was voided. Sounds like a test sled to me.

My take: Built 10/79 sold 11/80. This could have very well been what is known exectutive privlage sled. It happened every year. At the end of the build some exect would be given a sled to drive the winter and returned the next spring. Probable to see what the public thought of the unpainted tunnel for one thing. also would give his own oppinion. It sat in our yard till the fall employes sale and was sold to an empolye through a dealer. Happened every year. Would not be called a factory test sled. 4 pop rivet holes would have been there for our factory lic. tag. This is my guess. we need A NAME OF OWNER !!!!!!

Didn't Deere build a few 1981 Liquifires with the HSR engine setup near the end of 81 production as sort of a pre - production test? This unpainted tunnel machine could be simply a test for appearance if nothing else.

Yes! Simply a production sled with a unpainted tunnel!! If you want to add more fuel to this tread check the Liquifire in the 81 brochure
