295/S Flywheel and Stator interchange?

Post by Skiwhizj »

Hey folks I am new to this site. I have been into Deere and Ski whiz sleds for a long time but I just tore into my first 295/s motor and it is giving me a hard time. The good news is that the motor was thought to be stuck but after I got into it realized that some mice had gotten into the flywheel and did what mice do. So the motor turns over perfect with the flywheel removed. The bad news is the flywheel and stator are toast. I have checked my parts stash but nothing seems like it would work. Does anyone know of a good interchange or of a supplier new or used? I knew this build would be a little more interesting but that is part of the fun right! Thanks in advance for any help .

A cyclone stator will work. Howard used one on a recent restore and I've got one in mine too. Works well. Check this out:

I highly recommend getting a copy of the parts & tech manual if you don't already have them. Will save you many, many hours. They can both be found here: http://www.vintagesnow.com/John_Deere.html
There are a ton of guys here willing to help, so fire away... :welcome:

The main difference between the 295/S, 340/S, and the production ignition systems, is the lack of a ring gear on the flywheel. Otherwise, its all the same.

Did any other CCW/Kioritz engines get a flywheel without the ring gear like the 295/S? If not could the ring gear be removed?

The ring gear can be removed from the standard CCW flywheels. I've done it with a BFH, but trashed the gear in the process. You would probably need to press it off evenly to not damage it.

If you try to pull the flywheel off without removing the outer fan case you will remove the ring gear automatically.

Learn that one years ago! :silenced:
