SnoGoer was all over the low cg thing. The crankshaft is only 10 1/2 inches from the snow, which makes it so handy to retrieve missing non - metallic parts from under the engine.

Dittos on the 1980 black tunnel edition.

I've always been partial to the Sportfire model myself, since that's what DA first introduced me to a few years ago to buy. I've liked the LF machines too, especially the Kawi engine, because like someone else said- those engines *really* make some power when you massage them a bit. :sled: My "fantasy" JD sled would be a '82-up Sporty sled with a warmed over LF engine in it for power, 4/6 cylinders, etc. Now you have ultra light weight -AND- power!!

If I just only had the time to build such a thing..

Like this one? I call it the Liquisport. I built this last year. Some of you may have seen it at Waconia.

You Guys are not much help at all. Your supposed to talk me out of it but instead i contacted the Seller. Luckely for me he is out of town for the Holidays but will call me when he returns in about a week. This is the closest i,ve ever been to buying a 80,s sled. :bonk: The dark side is very strong.

This might be the cure if i ride this weekend. :sled:

It's like somebody with a drinking problem, going to the bar, and then asking everyone to talk him out of having a drink. Not going to happen.

The cure is riding the '80s LF. Troy and I rode Rainville's '84 around the parking lot a couple years back, and have never had another thought of buying one.

We also rode his '78 CC, and we both own '78 LFs now. :beers;

Sorry to help lead you down the rabbit hole, but while the 340/s is the one Deere I would own if I had only one to choose from, an 80's LF is my first choice for a trail ride. Don't listen to Linder, he didn't even know Deere built front motor sleds until a few years ago, LOL!

Keep us posted Chuck, and I still think the 83 Liquifire is a one great looking sled. Come to think of it, the 83 Sporty is pretty sweet too. And the one above is a darn nice sled. Nice job on a clean 440 LC install.
