I have not checked the cooling belt. But now that you mentioned that i smelled rubber burning and i thought it was my drive belt. I will look at that belt right now

I just checked my belt and it is still good and is not broken or worn, i took the cover off and started it and it looked like the cooling belt was running right and all. How do i check if the water pump is working?

I'm having the exact same issue with a 1980 liquifire. Could the CDI need replaced?

Liq-Zach,

The symptoms you have can be hard to diagnose remotely. From reading the posts and what others have suggested, here is my best guess. The high speed winding on the stator may bad. To diagnose, you must have an Ohm meter and pin out the connections on the motor harness. I don't remember the values, but Harleysportster (Pat) suggested the Hewtech drawing, and that has the values on it. I would look in this direction also.

Good luck and keep us posted.]

I had someone else this site tell me by replacing the CDI they corrected the issue. Does that sound like it makes sense?
