Mikuni carb for a '75 300

Post by 75greenmachine »

I have been thinking about taking the Walbro out of my '75 300 and putting in a Mikuni VM 34 instead, but where would I get a fuel pump and how hard is it to install the Mikuni and the fuel pump?

Thanks in advance,
Liam

You can get all you need here:http://www.psep.biz/store/walbro_carburetor_parts.htm Scroll down to the conversion kits in the middle of the page. Complete kit w/fuel pump, carb etc. I used a carb off a Cat on my sons, had to re-jet a bit but it works well. Depending on the carb mounting flange you use, you may have to use Allen head bolts instead of the original studs and nuts. You'll have to enlarge the choke cable hole in the dash to use the Mikuni choke cable also. You'll lose the airbox unless you can figure out a way to adapt it to the Mikuni flange.

grab yourslef a carb and manifold off a 340 kohler spitfire with the round slide..or one of that size...I had one on my first 300 back when I was a kid...it worked ok, no issues with power or anything, but it was a pain in the butt with no air box and didn't leave much room for even the cowling

Cowling fits fine w/o the airbox. Other than the choke cable, the only way you can tell it has a Mikuni is that it'll start in 2 pulls, and run all day long :sled:
