CDI low voltage coils

Post by Don O »

Cyclone 440 has all the symtoms of Harley's explanation on poor low voltage coils, (gas out the exhaust, gas in the crankcase), the readings on the low voltage wire from the stator is 1.5K ohms.
Everything alse has been checked, had it running enough to check timing, took it out around the yard but runs terrible.
I have a 340 cyclone same year that realy runs great, put 40 miles on it yesterday. Checked the low voltage coil and it read 1.77K ohms. After riding today and setting awhile, still warm, it read 1.48K ohms.
WHY?? why does one work and one not? If this is the problem when will the other fall?

I did pull the stator from the 440 tonight, my son Howard, (DLDeere) has a spare on hand.
