great site, my first post.... my 76 liqufire is acting up ignition wise. reading posts on
here for the last year or so makes me think the cdi is crapping out. I have to ohm everything
out again tommorow but... if its cooked, do I get another prestolite or a hewtech
replacement. I took the prestolite out of my 78 cyclone to try it but the connecters are
different and I dont want to start hacking 2 good harnesses. Any input would be cool
thanks jed

Re: prestolite or hewtech?
Jed, welcome aboard.
If the ohm readings are good on the stator I would say that the CDI Box is bad. Some members here have had good success with the aftermarket CDI boxes but sometimes the primary coil wires have to be reversed if the engine has spark but will not fire after installation. I have seen NOS Presotlite
boxes on Ebay and in the classifieds. As you see, the 78 style had changed the connectors. This is actually more reliable than than the 76 style. If your stator is bad, I would update both the CDI Box and the Stator to the round plug type. It's up to you what brand you want and how much you can afford. I have run the Hewtech FirePlug for close to 10 years now. As with any CDI Box, always have the key turned off when pulling over the engine and the plug wires are not hooked up and the plugs grounded out. If not, the CDI can burn out.

Hewtech. They're designed with modern engineering, and there is support behind the product.
