Re: 300 won't pump gas
Bob,
Before I took the carburetor apart I would check the pick up line inside the gas tank. Sometimes the pick up line rots in half and falls inside the tank. If it can't reach the gas you will only pump air! Also inspect the check valve in the end of the pick up line. If there is no check valve the gas line will not stay primed. If the the tank checks out I would question if the metering lever is set right in the carb. If it isn't set correctly from .005" to .020" it may cause it to not run right or not pump fuel at all.
Good Luck,
Troy

Re: 300 won't pump gas
Bob,
You will have to take all the sandwich plates off the bottom of the carb so you can get to the needle and seat. Turn the carb upside down in your hand and use a feeler gauge to measure how far the metering lever is sticking up above the base of the carb with the needle closed. If it's not .005" to .020" bend the tab end that engages the needle and seat until you get the height correct.
Just another thought but are your fuel lines attached to the carburetor correctly?
Bottom center is the fuel in from tank.
Bottom off set side is the vacuum pulse that runs to the crankcase.
Elbow fitting on the side is the return to the tank.

Troy I think you got that wrong.
Side fitting is the impulse line.
