Actual Production of 83 Snowfire

OK Guys. I have read the provided info on production of the Snowfires. It says low. How low was it? Does anyone really know for sure. Mine is a 83 and the serial # is J34XM 222176M. So I guess I got the 175th one made in 83. Have you seen alot of them produced after that? Just wondering..... How many manufacturers were still producing a free air at this time? Thanks guys for your input. This site is awesome for the JD folks.

'83 is the most common year of Sprintfires and Snowfires. '82 and '84 are the real low production years. I can't find my numbers at the moment.

1982 Snowfires were about 175, 1983 Snowfires around 500, & 1984 Snowfires around 350. The 1984 Snowfire was the last production free-air snowmobile. The 1984 Snowfire was also the last John Deere snowmobile to come off the line before being shut down.

Hello 1TM,

I pretty much agree with Rob. Deere built 175 Snowfire's in 82. I thought 83 production numbers were something like 600, and the 84's were around 285, but I am going from memory. No matter the exact number, they were a low build sled with only about 1,000 to 1,100 built total. They are also quite rideable with 7.2" of suspension travel and a 32" ski stance.

I was just quoting off the top of my head. I'm looking at actual production #'s this morning on paper. 1982's were 175, I don't have #'s on the 83's, and the 84's were 276. In any event, these are nice little sleds with the weakest point on them being the track probably followed by the seats that don't hold up against time either. Otherwise pretty durable little sleds.

Joe is right on the money with 600 total built in 1983 . I just happen to pick up my second 83 this past saturday ! It was like 3 miles from my house.. She's a little rough, but i think i am up to the task
