That is a very common problem. A good bead of high temp rtv works best and let it dry before restarting the engine.

My 78 LF leaks a bit at the exhaust manifold/pipe connection as well. You separate the two, and run a bead of the RTV around the inside of the exhaust manifold socket? Will a small leak hurt the engine?

I had the same problem. I used Permatex Ultra Copper High Temp RTV. Issue resolved.

silicone will not work, dont even bother. It will blow out, if not today, tomorrow it will. I have never found a cure.

Danzig, I stand corrected. Silicone blew out this afternoon. My apologies for passing on bad information. I'm thinking one could braze around coupling on the exhaust manifold and build up enough to prevent a leak. Or perhaps some kind of lead exhaust gasket.

Welding, brazing, wont work. vibration will break the pipe eventually.

good luck

I have found that the more you ride it, the more of the oil burns off and its not too bad, warm temp running really makes a mess vs. cold temps
